Any company that wants to survive in South Africa needs to comply with the final Black Economic Empowerment Codes of Good Practice released in 2006. The introduction of the Codes is the single most important change in commercial practice to affect South African business since the transition to democracy.

The BEE Codes are the regulations promulgated under in The Black Economic Empowerment Act, No. 53 of 2003. The Codes spell out exactly what the government requires from companies in terms of black economic empowerment.

This book is the authoritative commentary on the Codes. Its purpose is to make it possible for business and government to apply the Codes successfully; it is the essential companion to anyone operating in business or government.

The Codes are complex, comprehensive and hard to interpret correctly. Making sense of it all calls for a person intimately involved in developing the Codes. Vuyo Jack is such a person. Not only did Vuyo help to draw up the Codes; he has also witnessed and unpacked a multitude of BEE deals at a practical level. In this book Vuyo Jack shares his valuable insight and knowledge of the subject by giving a lucid account of the motivation for the Codes, the development and objectives of the Codes and, most importantly, the practical application of the Codes in business.
